Sweden’s West Coast

Day trips from our doorstep in Ugglarp

A hand-picked list of excursions for first-time visitors — each one a full day out. Coastal favourites run north and south along the Halland shore; a few inland adventures lie further east in Småland.

Along the coast

  1. Hovs Hallar, via Båstad & Torekov

    Bjäre peninsula

    ≈ 80 km

Dramatic red cliffs where the Hallandsås ridge meets the sea, with Torekov’s genuine fishing village and Båstad’s harbour on the way. On the same route lies Norrviken Gardens, one of Sweden’s most beautiful parks overlooking Laholm Bay, where the Orangeriet restaurant serves refined “garden to table” lunches from the Bjäre larder. Note: park admission is required, also for restaurant guests.

  2. Halmstad & Tylösand

    Halland coast

    ≈ 25 km

One of Sweden’s finest sandy beaches at Tylösand, plus a pleasant town centre with the castle, the medieval Norre Port gate and Picasso’s “Woman’s Head” sculpture.

  3. Falkenberg

    Halland coast

    ≈ 18 km

A charming old town with cobblestones and 18th-century wooden houses, salmon fishing in the river, and Skrea beach just outside.

  4. Varberg

    Halland coast

    ≈ 50 km

A medieval fortress with a museum, home to the Bocksten Man, and the beautiful Moorish-style cold bathhouse (Kallbadhuset), plus a long seafront promenade.

  5. Kungsbygget Adventure Park

    Hallandsåsen, Våxtorp

    ≈ 65 km

Family adventure on the ridge: a 935 m alpine coaster, zipline, high-rope courses and a bike park. About 30 minutes from Båstad, Halmstad and Ängelholm. Pre-book, and check seasonal hours.

  6. Svedino’s Car & Aircraft Museum

Ugglarp — right next to us!

    ≈ 500 m

One of Europe’s largest combined collections of vintage cars and aircraft — around 130 cars and 40 planes — and it’s practically on our doorstep. An easy outing when you feel like staying close to home. Daily mid-June to August, weekends spring and autumn; adult 160 SEK.

  7. Tjolöholm Castle

    Fjärås, Kungsbacka

    ≈ 80 km

One of Sweden’s most unusual castles, built 1898–1904 in English Tudor style with Arts & Crafts influences and award-winning seaside gardens. Open year round with guided tours and a café. The northernmost stop.

Inland — a longer drive

  1. Elinge Moose Park

    Hamneda, near Ljungby

    ≈ 100 km

A small family-run moose park where you can feed and pet the moose up close, with a café and playground. Inland in Småland — a trip east from the coast.

  2. High Chaparral

    Kulltorp / Hillerstorp, near Värnamo

    ≈ 130 km

Sweden’s Wild West park (since 1966) with a western town, action-packed shows, gold panning and a steam train to “Old Mexico”. Deep in Småland — the longest day-drive from the coast. Open roughly mid-May to end of August.

  3. Astrid Lindgren’s World

    Vimmerby, eastern Småland

    ≈ 240 km

Sweden’s largest open-air theatre park, where children meet Pippi Longstocking, Emil, Ronia and more in settings built straight from the books. Open May–August. Far east in Småland — best as an overnight trip; lodging is right by the park.
